Mallory Swanson

Born in Cavalier, North Dakota, Mallory spent her early years living in Edinburg, North Dakota and then Moorhead, Minnesota. Mallory earned her BA in Speech-Language Hearing Sciences and MA in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She worked for the Saint Paul Public School system in Minnesota as a Speech-Language Pathologist from fall of 2011 to the spring of 2020.
In the summer of 2011, Mallory participated in the Snorri Program, spending her homestay in the town of Fáskrúðsfjörður on the eastern side of Iceland. The Snorri Program was a life changing experience, and Mallory returned to Iceland each year after 2011 to visit friends and explore new parts of the country. In 2016, Mallory was the US representative for the Snorri Alumni Internship, and got to spend her summer in Hofsós, Iceland working at the Icelandic Emigration Center/Vesturfarasetrið.
In 2020, after almost a decade of summer visits, Mallory decided to move to Iceland. She enrolled in a MA program at the University of Iceland/Háskóli Íslands in International Education Studies and lived in Reykjavik for two years where she also worked part time at an International School. After completing that program, Mallory moved north to Hofsós where she is now working full-time at the Icelandic Emigration Center/Vesturfarasetrið. Mallory has previously been on the board of the Icelandic National League of Minnesota and served as the Snorri Alumni Association President for several years.
