Did You Know...?
  • Between 1875 and 1915 nearly 20% of Iceland’s population emigrated from Iceland to North America.
  • They left Iceland for many reasons, including the harsh climate, poor socio-economic conditions, and the devastation following the eruption of the volcano Askja.
(click here to read more about the emigration story)
  • There are an estimated 250,000 people of Icelandic descent living in North America.
  • Over 600 people have participated in the Snorri Programs over the past 20 years.
