Ástrós Signýjardóttir

Alternate Board Member since 2014
(Representing INL - Iceland)

Ástrós Signýjardóttir was born and raised in the greater Reykjavík area. After secondary school, she moved to Akureyri to study nursing but soon decided to switch majors and returned to Reykjavík to study political science at the University of Iceland, graduating with a BA in 2010. She went on to earn a master’s in international relations in 2012.
Beyond her academic endeavors, Ástrós has a wide variety of interests. She is a certified contemporary dance instructor and taught dance and aerobics classes alongside her studies. As a member of the Icelandic Youth Association (IYA), she represented the association’s youth council at a number of international conferences. And in 2011, Ástrós was one of 25 individuals elected by the Icelandic people to be part of the Constitutional Council, which prepared a bill for a new national constitution.

After university, Ástrós worked as a project manager for the IYA’s Youth Summit, was a flight attendant with Icelandair for over two years, and worked as a marketing assistant for production companies SagaFilm and Stórveldið. She currently serves as project manager for Info Norden, the information service of the Nordic Council of Ministers, working out of the Nordic Association office in downtown Reykjavík.

With her husband, producer and project manager Hugi Halldórsson, Ástrós has four children and one cat. They live in Garðabær, just outside Reykjavík, and enjoy spending time together as a family, traveling, learning, and staying active.
Ástrós first got involved with Snorri when the then-project manager went on leave in 2013. Ástrós managed the 2014 programs and joined the board of the Snorri Foundation that same year, a position she has held ever since.
