2023 Itinerary Outline
As a participant of the Snorri Program you will arrive at Keflavik International Airport on Sunday, June 10, 2023 where a bus and a Snorri-representative will be waiting to drive you and your fellow Snorris to Reykjavík.
In Reykjavík you will settle down in a centrally located guesthouse, relax after a long flight and recover from the jet-lag. Here is a rough scheme of the program:
Week 1
Extensive cultural and educational program on: the Icelandic language, culture, history and other relevant subjects.
Lectures, company visits, short day trips and fun weekend programs.
Week 2
Carrying on with Icelandic class and cultural lectures about the land of your ancestors. By now you should be able to understand and use some Icelandic phrases. Museums, restaurants, cooking together, participating in an 'Icelandic night' with Nordjobb, visit cafés and enjoying down town Reykjavík.
Week 3
You will move in with your new Icelandic Family. Experience everyday household life and working life.
Week 4
The 'family and work period' continues. Examples of volunteer jobs held by previous Snorri-participants are: tree planting, garden work, construction, slaughter house, fish-freezing plant, hotel work, tourist information, museum, archeological excavation, national park, banking, farming, nursery, hospital and a senior citizens’ home, swimming pool, whale watching, horse rental, brewery/factory work, street theatre and more. You will not receive regular wages and your family will provide room and board. At the end of this week the group will gather in Reykjavik for one night, before heading on the final tour.
Week 5
An adventurous and historical tour that takes you to the most exotic and beautiful places in Iceland, connecting you to the land of your ancestors. Horses and glaciers - geysers and waterfalls, hiking and boating, bathing in hot springs and loving every minute! The tour usually ends at the Blue Lagoon where all participants evaluate the program and present their assignments at a graduation ceremony.
Departure from Keflavík International Airport is Saturday, July 15, 2023.
