TENTATIVE 2024 Itinerary Outline
2024 Trip Itinerary Outline
As a participant of the Snorri Plus Program, you will arrive at Keflavík airport no later than early on the morning of Monday, August 19, 2024, where you'll be greeted by Snorri Program staff. After a 45-minute transfer to Reykjavík, you'll get settled in a centrally located hotel and have some time to relax and recover from jet lag.
August 19-24
During your first few days in Iceland you will get a great introduction of the City of Reykjavík and participate in a cultural and educational program with presentations on various subjects such as Icelandic history, language, and culture, genealogy, geology, and society. You will receive your family tree and the program will contact your relatives and host a reception. You will visit museums, dine out, and discover Reykjavík by foot. You will experience Reykjavík's annual Culture Night, with the option of taking part in the Reykjavík Marathon with the group (3 or 10 km fun run, half a marathon or a full one), and end the night with a fireworks display.
The program will try to find visits to a company/organization that specializes in your field of work where you can make contacts and familiarize yourself with your Icelandic colleagues. If you are retired or do not wish to make such a connection the program can help you find contacts related to your interests.
August 25-30
After breakfast, we'll check out of our hotel and depart Reykjavík on our week-long Adventure Tour around Iceland. The itinerary varies each year. For 2024, we will focus on northern Iceland, with stops including Akureyri, Húsavík, and Mývatn. Of course, we will also visit Hofsós in beautiful Skagafjörður, home of the Icelandic Emigration Center. You will visit the ancient site of the Parliament/Alþingi and take a Golden Circle tour. If you have relatives in any of the areas we visit, the program can help you get in touch with them, and we may be able to stop by some ancestral farms along the way if time allows.
September 1
We will spend our last night in the greater Reykjavík area and mark the end of the trip with a farewell dinner. The program ends about midday on Monday, September 2.
Departure from Keflavík Monday, September 2, 2024.
*A more detailed itinerary will be provided as plans are finalized. Please note that this is just a rough outline and plans are subject to change depending on a variety of factors.
**If you wish to extend your trip we will help you make more plans, i.e. contact relatives and more.
