Snorri Plus Itinerary

Snorri Plus 2026 Itinerary Outline

*Please note that this itinerary is unconfirmed and still subject to change!*

Snorri Plus 2026: Itinerary Outline

As a participant of the Snorri Plus Program, you will arrive at Keflavík airport no later than early on the morning of Monday, August 17, 2026. After a 45-minute transfer to Reykjavík, you'll get settled in at Hótel Holt, a historic hotel known for its extensive art collection that happens to be located just a couple minutes' walk from the Snorri office. You'll have some time to relax and rest before orientation. (Please note that early check-in is subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed, but the hotel can store your luggage until your room is ready.)

Week 1 (
August 17-23): Cultural and Educational Program, Reykjavík
During your first few days in Iceland you will get a great introduction of the City of Reykjavík and participate in a cultural and educational program with presentations on various subjects such as Icelandic history, language, and culture, genealogy, geology, and society. You will receive your family tree and the program will contact your relatives and host a reception. You will visit museums, dine out, and discover Reykjavík by foot. You will experience Reykjavík's annual Culture Night, with the option of taking part in the Reykjavík Marathon with the group (3 or 10 km fun run, half a marathon or a full one), and end the night with a fireworks display.

The program will try to find visits to a company/organization that specializes in your field of work where you can make contacts and familiarize yourself with your Icelandic colleagues. If you are retired or do not wish to make such a connection the program can help you find contacts related to your interests.

You will also have some free time to explore on your own, and we may offer an optional day trip outside of the city for a modest additional fee.

Week 2 (August 24-30): "Best of the West" Tour of West Iceland
After breakfast, we'll check out of our hotel and depart Reykjavík on our week-long Adventure Tour around Iceland. The itinerary varies each year. For 2026, we will focus on beautiful western Iceland, including the famous Snæfellsnes Peninsula. If you have relatives in any of the areas we visit, the program can help you get in touch with them, and we may be able to stop by some ancestral farms along the way if time allows.

We will overnight at:
Monday, August 24: Dalahótel, Laugar í Sælingsdal
Tuesday, August 25: Dalahótel, Laugar í Sælingsdal
Wednesday, August 26: Hótel Snæfellsnes
Thursday, August 27: Hótel Varmahlíð
Friday, August 28: Hótel Hamar, Borgarnes
Saturday, August 29: Stracta Hótel, Hella

August 30
We will spend our last night at Hótel Berg in Keflavík, near the airport, and mark the end of the trip with a farewell dinner.

For those departing from Keflavík International Airport on Monday, August 31, 2026, transfer to the airport will be provided. If you choose to extend your trip, you will be responsible for organizing and covering the cost of any and all transportation and accommodation after the end of the program.

*A more detailed itinerary will be provided as plans are finalized. Please note that this is just a rough outline and plans are subject to change depending on a variety of factors.

**If you wish to extend your trip we will help you make more plans, i.e. contact relatives and more.
