Snorri Foundation Grant
Did you know that the actual cost of the Snorri Program is approximately USD $10,000 / CAD $13,000? But thanks to the generosity of the Snorri Foundation and other program sponsors, participants are only required to pay approximately half that price. All participants automatically receive this grant - you do not need to apply for it.
A number of other grant/scholarship opportunities are available. In recent years, each participant has received an average of $2650 USD / $3800 CAD in grants!

Icelandic Roots - Snorri Grant
Icelandic Roots was founded in November 2013 as a nonprofit, charitable organization by Sunna and Jeff Furstenau. In their mission to promote Icelandic heritage and support education initiatives, they have offered Snorri scholarships since 2015 and have previously given financial support directly to the Snorri Programs and provided participants with free training and short-term memberships to the amazing Icelandic Roots genealogy database.

Other Grants
You are encouraged to seek information on all grants that might support your participation in the Snorri Program. For example, you could contact your local Kiwanis, Lions or Rotary clubs. Below are grants available specifically to Snorri Program participants from Canada and the United States.
For Canadians
Canada Iceland Foundation, Inc. (CIFI) has given a bursary to all Canadian Snorri participants each year since the inception of the program. The amounts have varied throughout the years, depending on the year-end funds the CIFI has available from revenues generated from investments and after its scholarship and other obligations have been met. Funds are divided equally among each year's participants. Canadian Snorri candidates do not have to apply. CIFI receives a list of Canadian Snorris who are registered for each year's program and each Snorri on that list will receive their allocation. Please note that CIFI can accept directed donations specifically for their Snorri Fund, which will help ensure that they can continue supporting Canadian Snorris for years to come.
Please note that this list is not exhaustive and is subject to change. Clubs may change their requirements for Snorri scholarships, and there may be clubs not on the list below that offer grants. All accepted Snorris are encouraged to contact their local clubs for the most up-to-date information. If you represent a club, feel free to contact us with updated information.

For Americans
The Guttormsson Memorial Scholarship – The Guttormsson Family Foundation was established in 2012 by Stefan and Rosemary Guttormsson of Minnesota to honor Stefan’s father, Bishop Stefan Thorsteinn Guttormsson, and grandfather, the Rev. Guttormur Guttormsson. After Stefan passed away in 2017, Rosemary decided to continue his legacy of preserving and promoting Icelandic heritage through the Guttormsson Memorial Scholarship. She offers up to $2000 USD in scholarships for American participants each year. Click here for more information.
Icelandic National League of the United States (INLUS)
INLUS seeks to support all American participants each year, as funding allows. Once acceptance letters have been sent out, the Snorri Foundation will provide INLUS leadership with a list of all American participants (names and contact info). INLUS will then contact each individual with more information on the financial support they offer. Note that you do not need to be a current member of INLUS or an affiliate club/organization to be considered for a grant, but if you choose to accept a grant, you will be asked to become an INLUS member, with the membership fee waived for the first year.
