Attention Snorri Applicants!
We’re so excited you are applying for the Snorri Program.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.
There are 3 important steps that must be completed in order to be considered for the program:
1. Fill out the application form as completely and accurately as possible. You may pause and save your application but don’t forget to come back and submit it BEFORE the deadline.
2. Fill out the family tree form (scroll down to download as a Word doc or PDF) as completely and accurately as possible. The family tree form can either be uploaded and submitted along with your application or emailed to us at [email protected].
NOTE: We highly recommend also filling out Icelandic Roots' (IR) Cousins Across the Ocean form at the application stage. Icelandic Roots is a 501c3 registered nonprofit based in North Dakota, USA that maintains a detailed genealogy database and offers Snorri participants, among other things, free access to the database and financial support. If you are accepted to the Snorri Program and want to apply for a scholarship from Icelandic Roots, you will be required to fill out the form at that point. Since you have to fill out our family tree form for your application anyway, filling out the Cousins form now, which asks for much of the same information, can save you some time down the road. In addition, if you need any assistance filling out your family tree form for your application, the IR volunteer genealogists would be more than happy to assist you! As long as you can provide information about yourself, your parents, and your grandparents, they can generally help you with information on relatives further back, including your emigrant ancestors. The Cousins Across the Ocean form is available here. Under "Primary Purpose of This Form," be sure to check "Participate in a Snorri Program."
3. Have at least one reference letter submitted on your behalf, preferably from a professional/academic reference (someone who is familiar with you from school or work, ex: boss, supervisor, professor, etc.). Reference letters must be emailed directly from the person of reference to [email protected] on or before the application deadline. Note that reference letters emailed by the applicant will not be considered.
If you have any questions about the application, contact us by email (preferred) or Facebook Messenger.
Please note that if you are not accepted or choose to withdraw your application and want to apply again the following year,
you must complete a new application form.
