| The Snorri-2011 Program |
| As a participant in the Snorri
Program you will arrive at Keflavik International Airport on Saturday June
11, 2011 where a bus and a Snorri-representative will be waiting to drive you along with the rest
of the group to Reykjavík. In Reykjavík you will settle down in a centrally
located guesthouse, relax after a long flight and recover from the jet-lag.
Here is a rough scheme of the program: |

Arrival in Iceland
Saturday June 11, 2011 |
| Week 1 |
Extensive program about:
the Icelandic language,
culture and history.
Lectures, discussions, museum visits; Reykjavik and surroundings. |
| Week 2 |
Carrying on with the Icelandic classes and
the cultural lectures about the land of your ancestors. Museums, restaurants,
cooking together, Icelandic night, cafés and
a Golden Circle Tour. |
| Week 3 |
Summer job, friends and family. You will
work for three weeks, preferably in the geographical area from where your
ancestors came. The job will be equivalent to the summer jobs that local youths have
and you will work up to 40hrs a week. You
will not receive regular wages, instead you get an allowance from the Snorri Program. |
| Week 4 |
The "family
and work period" continues.
Examples of jobs held by Snorri-participants 1999-2009 are: Tree
planting, garden work, construction, slaughter house, fish-freezing plants,
hotel work, tourist
information, museums, archeological excavation, national park, banking, farming,
day cares for children, hospitals and
senior citizens homes, swimming pools, whale watching, horse
rental, brewery/factory work, street theatre and more. |
| Week 5 |
Last week of
your summer job - preparation for
the adventure tour and meeting up with all your new Snorri friends. The group assembles in Reykjavik for
one night before starting the tour. |
| Week 6 |
An adventure tour starting in Reykjavik that
takes you to the most exotic and beautiful places in Iceland. Horses and glaciers
- geysers, river rafting and snowmobiling - waterfalls, hiking, bathing
in hot springs. The tour ends in Hafnarfjörður where all the participants evaluate the
program. Departure from Keflavik is Friday July 22, 2011. |

| Each placement with the
Snorri-Program costs approximately CAD 15,000. Apply for a Snorri-Foundation grant by marking the box
in the application form! The grants are usually around 10,000 - 12,000 CAD. |

| The following is included in the
Snorri Program: |
- Roundtrip fares from
Toronto, New York, Minneapolis, Boston and Seattle.
- Insurance during your stay in Iceland.
Accommodation and full board for the whole period.
- Domestic traveling costs.
- Two weeks cultural and language
program.
- Visit to the Emigration Center in Hofsós.
- Summer job and an allowance during the three-week
family and work period.
- An adventure tour
with many activities, full board,
lodgings and traveling costs.
- Weekend program, an
evaluation meeting and much much more; fun fun fun.

| Other Grants |
| You
are encouraged to acquire information on all grants that might support your participation
in the Snorri Program. Contact your local Kiwanis, Lions or Rotary clubs.
Make sure you contact your local INL-club or the Icelandic club in your
area. Participants have eceived a grant from the Canada-Iceland Foundation, ranging from CAD 150-250
(for Canadians only). |
